News Highlights: Psychology trumps Technology: How to express yourself and really connect with others online
“Psychology trumps technology,” says Jeff Hancock, founder and director of the Stanford Social Media Lab and professor in the Communications Department at Stanford. “If you want to understand what’s going on on social media, you have to start with what’s going on psychologically.”
In the latest episode of Think Fast, Talk Smart, educator and podcast presenter Matt Abrahams sits down with Professor Hancock to talk about the communication tendencies, styles and mistakes of social media users. “Whenever there is a new kind of technology … our focus is on what it does,” says Professor Hancock. “But I think over time we realize that it is still people who use it to achieve things. And I think when we start, when we take a step back … we can get a sense of what’s really changing. “
Think Fast, Talk Smart is a podcast produced by Stanford Graduate School of Business. Each episode offers concrete, easy-to-implement tools and techniques to help you sharpen and improve your communication skills.
