iPhone 14 Pro Has A Larger Camera Bump Because It’ll Pack A 48-Megapixel Sensor

[ad_1]

Apple’s iPhone 14 Pro is rumored to have a monster camera bump, but don’t worry, it might be worth it.

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says that the reason the camera bump will be larger than the outgoing iPhone 13 Pro is that it will have a new 48-megapixel camera.

We’ve heard rumors of a new camera before so this isn’t the first time it’s been suggested. As for the camera bump, recently leaked schematics show that it will be a considerable one next time around. Now, Kuo says that it’s all down to the increase in the size of the sensor that will be used for the new iPhone 14 Pro camera.

The main reason for the larger and more prominent rear-camera bump of the 14 Pro/Pro Max is upgrading the wide camera to 48MP (vs. 13 Pro/Pro Max’s 12MP). The diagonal length of 48MP CIS will increase by 25-35%, and the height of 48MP’s 7P lens will increase by 5-10%.

The jump from a 12-megapixel camera to one with four times as many pixels could allow for improved photos across the board, although we will have to wait and see what computational magic Apple will apply. It’s unlikely the image that an iPhone 14 Pro will create will be 48 megapixels large, for example. Apple is much more likely to use those pixels to create a more accurate image at a lower resolution instead.

Apple is expected to announce the iPhone 14 lineup in or around September of this year with four new devices likely to be unveiled.
