CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — The mayor of Charleston says the city’s large shopping mall is for sale.
In recent years, anchor stores Macy’s and Sears closed at Charleston Town Center and several other retailers have departed, according to WCHS. The mall has been open after closing for a period of time at the beginning of the pandemic.
“This is an exciting day for everyone who has worked behind-the-scenes for the past two years to prepare the mall to be put on the market,” said Mayor Amy Shuler Goodwin in a statement on Wednesday. “We look forward to working with the sellers and any potential buyers to create a vibrant downtown attraction.”
The mall was placed in receivership in January 2018. U.S. National Bank purchased it for $35 million a year later at auction.
